How many times have you been watching high school or college basketball games, and a player makes a great offensive rebound, only to take forever to put the ball back up. They will bring the ball down, so everyone who's 3 feet and up can get their hands on it, or the time they waste bringing it down allows the defense to recover and swat the player from behind. With our team, we practice the "tip drill." You JUMP to get the rebound, arms extended above your head. Once you catch the ball, YOU KEEP IT HIGH, land from your jump, and go right back up. Your legs are basically working as they would if you were jump roping. Once you hit the floor, you jump back up. This will allow you to get the shot off before your defense can react and block the shot.
