Judge takes 'ping' out of baseball in NYC

Posted by Nancy B.

A U.S. District Court judge in Manhattan has approved city council’s ban on metal baseball bats, effective Labor Day Weekend and the first such ban in the country. Several cities in other states are also considering banning metal bats to help prevent baseball injuries, especially among children. “Parents, organizations, leagues of all ages, municipalities and state governments should take this Federal Court's ruling as a green light to return the game to its roots by enacting similar laws to prohibit the use of metal bats so that kids can enjoy a better, purer and safer brand of baseball,” said Councilman James S. Oddo in a statement. Opponents to the measure, who include Little League, say a metal bat is no more dangerous than a wooden one.
