New York Yankess third baseman Alex Rodriguez was expected to get off his crutches Saturday and begin an extensive rehab on his surgically repaired hip, according to the New York Daily News.
According to the report, Rodriguez spoke to manager Joe Girardi on Friday, giving the manager the latest update on his rehab program. Girardi said Rodriguez was supposed to start doing some exercises in a swimming pool in the next day or two, though the manager was unclear precisely what A-Rod would be doing in the water.
"He was supposed to get off the crutches today and start doing a little more rehab," Girardi said Saturday. "He said he was in a good frame of mind. He asked how the club was doing and how I was doing. He said he was doing well and I said, 'Just keep it going.'"
Rodriguez, whose rehab is already going quicker than expected, according to a friend, isn't expected to return to action until late April or early May. It is unknown if A-Rod will rejoin the Yankees in Tampa before the end of spring training.
