Your Health Reflects Your Lifestyle Choices

Posted Oct 30 2011 12:00am

San Francisco Chiropractic In general, we reflect the quality of our context. Context=Lifestyle Choices. Things like what we eat, drink, and think effect our health. The amount of exercise and rest we get pays a big part. As does the amount of physical, chemical, and mental stress we expose ourselves to day in and day out.  And the thing is...for the most part, we have control over all of it.

Sure, there are hereditary conditions or conditions we acquired in childhood before we were in charge of our own lifestyle choices that can stay with us our entire life even when we make healthy choices now. But that's even more reason to make better choices once we are in charge.  And yes, there are diseases that kill even the healthiest of people...but these are the exceptions and not the rule.

Just like you can get a cavity even if you take perfect care of your can become ill if you take perfect care of your's just that the odds are way way less. don't have to be perfect...but if day in and day out, you feed yourself garbage, don't exercise, and smoke and drink...well, your health will most likely reflect these choices.

In the United States, almost 70% of the population is overweight or obese, predisposing these people to killer diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and strokes. In the overwhelming majority of these people this is because of the choices they make day in and day out...primarily the choice of what to eat.

Personally, I prefer a plant based diet, such as The McDougall Program . And it does not have to be "all or none" either. You can eat clean most of the time and still benefit greatly. Heck...any change will steer most people in the direction of health vs. illness.

If you are someone that spends the majority of their day sitting like most of the San Francisco Chiropractic patients we are especially at risk for health problems. Recent research suggests that you have a much greater chance of dying from a heart attack than if you did not have a desk job. And get this...this is even if you exercise. Solution: You need to exercise more and get up and walk around, and take the stairs, and get out and run around with your kids, etc.

Hey...we are designed to be running around the jungle hunting for food...not sitting at a desk under artificial light eating artificial food. It's just the way it is.

That's one good thing about being a busy chiropractor in San Francisco ...we are moving around all day and using our bodies. If we play our cards right and practice what we preach we can spread the chiropractic message into our golden years.

So...not that this is earth shattering news or's just interesting how people take care of their plants, and their fish, and their cars for that matter...yet ignore their own health. Then when they do get sick they look for a magic bullet solution such as a pill, potion or lotion to fix the problem. would be nice if we could have our cake and eat it too...but that's not reality. reality is that your health is a reflection of your context. And your context is determined by your lifestyle in and day out. So make them good ones and enjoy life. It's a small price to pay.
