Yoga is a system of poses which coordinates breathing and physical activity to engage mind and body. The word yoga means union and is described as integrating mind, body, and spirit with a universal energy. By focusing on the positions and the breathing that accompanies these poses, mind and body become united, bringing the body into perfect coordination as well as strengthening and lengthening the muscles.

Yoga is concerned with the health of the individual as a whole. It can help with muscle toning, relief of tension and stiffness and can lead to general improvement of health and mental outlook. It extends to the emotional and mental aspects of the individual. Anyone can do it anywhere, anytime. It provides relaxation and peace of mind. By combining the movements with breathing, you will feel tension leave your body, you will relax into the poses, and you will feel great during and afterward. It is best to use a yoga mat so that you don’t skid or slip while performing these poses.
At any age, yoga can improve flexibility and by strengthening and lengthening the muscles can relieve discomfort and stiffness in the low back and the rest of the body.
