Whiplash actaully refers to a type of injury when your head "whips" forward and back or side to side.  This type of injury can occur in a car accident, a fall, or in sports, just to name a few.

When there is existing disc degeneration already there this can in fact make a whiplash injury worse.  Someone with a healthy, normal spine will be stronger and heal quiker than someone with preexisting conditions.
