When I transition from a seated to a standing position I feel intense stiffness in my lower back. I usually have to stand still for a few seconds to let the stiffness subside before I can take any steps. I had a lamenectomy to relieve a herniated disc in 1991 and have had no stiffness for several years. I'm 53 years old and not overweight. I sit at a computer for most of my workday with occasional trips to the printer or breakroom.
