What Causes Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD)?

Posted Jun 02 2009 4:33pm

San Francisco Chiropractor and Herniated Disc Doctor Comments:

590981 Some experts say degenerative disc disease is nothing more than a normal aging process. Some say it is caused by abnormal wear and tear on the spinal discs because of mechanical stresses, such as misaligned or subluxated vertebrae. Kind of like your tire tread would wear prematurely if the front end of your car was out of alignment.

In addition...there is a building body of evidence that suggest that degenerative disc disease is the result of an unhealthy context, or poor lifestyle choices (poor diet, lack of exercise, stress, smoking, drinking)...like heart disease or cancer. I actually subscribe to this school of thought...it just makes the most sense to me.

After all...every cell in your body is effected by what you put into the body, and how you take care of it. And for the most part...all of the choices are made by YOU.

All the parts of the body are made up of cells. Cells make up tissues. Tissues make up organs. Organs make up systems. And when we put it all together, we have some 6 thousand billion cells all interacting with each other under the control of the nervous sytem. These cells are dying off every second...millions of them, depending on what kind of cell it is. Then new cells come in and replace them.
