Grinding it out for 40-50 hours a week sitting in front of a computer...is NOT good for your back. Sure, there are adjustments you can make to your work environment that will reduce stress on your spine. Things like a good ergonomic chair, proper computer monitor height, microbreaks and all that...but you need more...you need exercise.
Nothing is as good for your back as regular exercise. Exercise helps eliminate stress from your muscles, keeps them tone, and helps maintain strong bones and healthy spinal discs.
A regular exercise program also should include stretching and abdominal work to keep the spine limber and help support the lumbar spine. You can work the abs hard in 5-7 minutes with proper technique.
Even 20-30 minutes is enough to get the job done...say 3 times per week.
Sure going to the gym is the last thing you feel like doing after working all day...but you don't have to...you can rig something up at home....it's not that hard. All those infomercial exercise programs you see on TV...hey, most of them work, and you can do them in your or bedroom or garage.
They work because someone took action!
Really, most of the time when someone does not make the time to exercise, it's just because of lack of discipline, or priorities. The problem is not lack of time...it's lack of mind-set. Do your back a favor and exercise...it's worth the effort. Your back will feel better...and you will feel better about yourself.
