Working on the computer for long periods of time can initiate a lot of neck pain, shoulder pain, headaches and tight muscles. Over a long time, the muscles can become very tight and painful to the touch. Here are a few things you can start with.
First, ice your upper back and neck area. Use a shoulder pack, preferably a 9x16 trisectional pack. NExt do gentle trapezius and neck stretches. You may also benefit by going to a chiropractor and getting your cervical and upper dorsal spine adjusted. I think that modalities such as ultrasound and heat/ice will give you pain relief as well. Acupuncture will also give you some relief. Finally, use a cervical support pillow at night- as this will help to position your head and neck in an optimal position.
Hope this helps and you find some pain relief. - NJ
