Back pain is on the increase, some tips on how to prevent it -

Measure your height every year after the age of 45 as shrinking is a sign your spine is compressing due to fragile vertebrae. If you have lost 2cm or more in height, ask for a bone density scan.
NHS prescription for a healthy back – exercise 30 minutes for 5 days of a week.
Your back isn't supposed to be straight as backs are s-shaped, so pick a chair that gives lumber support or use a cushion to maintain the natural curve. If you sleep on your back then place a pillow under your knees to help support the lower spine.
Try and move from your sitting/lying position every 30 minutes (except at bed time!)to avoid stiffness.
