The Neck-Migraine Headache Connection

Posted Feb 29 2012 12:00am

Neck pain and headaches san francisco We have been providing t reatment for neck pain and headaches in San Francisco for over 20 years now. Now, not everyone that has neck pain has headaches, and migraine headache sufferers don't necessarily have neck pain. There is a lot of overlap though.

The connection between the neck (pain or not) and headaches is one that is often overlooked.

I know firsthand, because I discovered chiropractic as a young stock broker suffering with severe migraine headaches. I had tried everything...MRI, brain scans, CAT scans, x-rays, pain meds, hearing tests, muscle relaxers, the latest and greatest headache pills, steroids...they could not find anything and none of the prescribed treatments helped.

Finally, I went to see a chiropractor who found pinched nerves in my neck. Now, I did also have neck pain...not all migraine sufferers do. After about 6 weeks of treatment my headaches were gone. This is when I decided I wanted to become a chiropractor.

Fast forward 20+ years and I have probably helped over 3000 patients that have presented to my chiropractic clinics with headaches...many migraine headaches. The first place I look is in the neck. It's common knowledge...even in the medical community now, that pinched nerves in the neck are a primary cause of tension and migraine headaches.

Sure...there are other causes of migraines such as hormonal imbalances, chemicals, toxins, drugs, side effects, poor posture, sleeping disorders, tumors, eye strain, high blood pressure, and more...but pinched nerves in the neck from spinal misalignment's in my opinion is #1.'s rare when a headaches patient does not respond favorably to chiropractic adjustments...but it does happen.

Chiropractic is 100% surgery. In fact, the word chiropractic means "done by hand".  Although...many modern day chiropractors will used advaned "natural" therapies such as deep tissue therapeutic laser on conditions such as musculoskeletal related headaches.

So...whether or not you have just developed headaches or you have been suffering with them for a owe it to yourself to consider 100% natural chiropractic. At least get checked out and try it. Depending on how long your neck has been out of may only need a few sessions to find relief...maybe only one.

If you do...come back here and let me know how it went. If you have a chiropractic-headache story now...please comment below.
