They say that adults should get between 7 – 8 hours of sleep a night but many can survive on less and many sleep less due to a sleeping problem.
Some of the most common causes of sleep depreciation are working late on your laptops, cell phones, and PDA's, anaemia, depression, Hypothyroidism, Fibromyalgia, CFS, Restless Leg Syndrome, caffeine overload, some medications, some soft drinks (coca-cola) and of course shift work and hormone levels in women.
Good sleep is important to maintain good health, so if you are really struggling then go and visit your GP. But first write a sleep diary listing any medications you are taking in the day, any pain you are in, any stress you are under, your meals and drinks and any exercise you are taking.
To help you have a good nights sleep, the top ten sleep-inducing foods are almonds, bananas, chamomile tea, flaxseed, honey, milk and dairy products, oatmeal, potatoes, turkey and whole-wheat bread. The other obvious tips are to avoid anything you can that may have caffeine in it.
