San Francisco Disc Pain Treatment Center concerned: A Bad Mattress can make your Back Pain Worse!

We spend one third of our life in bed. This time is necessary for rest and recovery. However, if you are not setup properly with the right kind of mattress and pillow (I will post on this later), you could actually be doing more harm than good to yourself. The complete opposite of what should be happening. You should either be sleeping on your back with a cervical pillow under your neck and a regular pillow or roll under your knees, or on your side with a cervical pillow under your neck and a regular pillow between your knees. You should never be on your stomach. Sleeping on your stomach offers NO support to the neck, requires you to have your head twisted so you can breath, and is one of the worst things you can do to your spine. But, the main ingredient is the mattress you sleep on. I get asked all the time what is the best kind of mattress. So, I have found a good article for you to learn about mattresses. As far as a brand name goes, I am partial to Temper Pedic. But most of the brand name companies are good as long as you buy what's best for you. Sleep Tight.
