Painful zit or lymph node?

On the back of my neck I have a swollen lymph node.  It's about a cm wide and feels like a painful zit but it hasn't come to a point yet and has been around for 4 or 5 days.  It is somewhat painful.  Should I wait to see if this is just a minor infection or a zit or go find a doctor?  Is there a timetable for this kind of thing, IE if it doesn't go away in a week?
