I would go get it checked out as soo as possible. I was in a car accident in 1992. At the time I had severe headaches but nothing was found that could be the cause so the just said it was severe whiplash. Thre years ago I started having vertigo, svere migraines, balance and neurologic problems. After going to several specialist and spending thousands of dollars, my pain management Doctor discovered during a procedure that my Atlas was touching the base of my skull. I did some reseach and came across a brainstem specialist, I made an appointment. He told me that my Atlas dislocated as wells as fractured and the fracture has been there for quite sometime. My suggetsion to you is to skip the the Ortopedic Doctor and go to an Upper Cervical Chiropractor/Brainstem Specialist. Agood place to start is to go to http://www.blairchiropractic.com/ or http://www.nucca.org/. I hope this answers your question.

I was in a car accident in 2007 where I had a c1 fracture. It did not require surgery and was in a hard brace for 10 weeks and a soft brace for two weeks. Recently, I have been experiencing pain at the site of the break. I would like to know if this is a normal thing or could it be something I need to have checked out by my orthopedic doctor? Any advice would be appreciated.
