Lumbar disc herniations respond well to Chiropractic treatment.

Chiropractors treat all types of spine pain and a common type is from lumbar disc herniations. In fact low back pain accounts for one-third of all orthopedic outpatient visits and is often related to problems with the disc.
A recent study of 517 pati9ents with protruded lumbar discs showed that 84% responded well to the type of treatment a Chiropractor gives. This study looked at the treatment Chiropractors give the the patient on their side. The theory is that type of treatment creates a gap and may cause the disc to return to where it is supposed to be and take pressure off of the nerve.
But not all discs should be manipulated and a trained Chiropractor will be able to determine if manipulation is indicated and advised. If the patient has urinary incontinence or parplegia, manipulation is not indicated and emergency surgey may be necessary.
The bottom line is that Chiropractic is safe and effective and should be tried before any invasive treatment is considered.
