i have had disc problems since 1997 and have had injections, electric spine stimulation, the facet injections, physical rehab, decompression, and nothing worked for more than a month or two. i am currently on pain meds, oxycontin10mg twice a day and oxycodone 5mgx2 four times a day. i have been told the nerve endings can be burned to stop the pain or i can have surgery. with this many discs being bad, oh all the other discs are bulging also, are these two procedures really an option? any other suggestions? thanks
Hello I wish I could give you some helpful advise, but I am just starting in trying to resolve my back problems. I am sheduled for surgery on the 22nd of April, and have been searching the web for any advise I could find, too. It sounds like you have really been through the torture mill with your back, and I'm so sorry you are having to go through this. My surgeon was talking about removing the 5 bad discs I have. But has decided that because of my age...just turned 70, that he instead will be removing the L1-2,L2-3-L3-4. I will be wearing a hard plastic brace for 3mos. don't know if I'll have to use a walker too, or not.
Wishing you good luck with finding a good solution for your back pain.
First, get your Vitamin D Level checked and get AGGRESSIVE treatment to get it up to between 50 to 80 ng/ml. Don't pay any attention to the 'low normal' level of 30 ng/ml on the test. If you are in pain, you need to get your levels higher because even VERY mild deficiency can cause pain.
Second, go get the book "Healing Back Pain" by Dr. John Sarno. It will really open your eyes to a new way of thinking about back pain- IF you are ready to hear his message.
My fiancee has a ruptured L5-S1, and was told that he needed emergency surgery. I immediately made him read this book, and he was COMPLETELY out of pain in a matter of a couple of monts. 2 years later, he is still pain free.
Don't just READ the book, but HEAR it, LISTEN to the message and be open to the possibility that Dr. Sarno might just be RIGHT!
