I have foot drop from a fragmented herniated disc L5 S1. Surgery was two weeks ago...pain is gone..will this be permanent?

I wonder if I will be able to walk normally again? I do have feeling in the foot but cannot lift it off the ground...

My doctor suggested high top Converse sneakers and lots of walking...is there anything else medically recommended?

The nerve can take anywhere from 2 to 6 months to recover.  I am going through the same thing.  It's been 3 months now and I can feel the strength coming back.  I use an inverted traction bed.

I have a herniated disc at L5 S1.  The pain was insane and I could hardly walk for 2 months.  I elected not to have surgery.  I'm in my 3rd month and it's getting better.  I now walk without limping.  My foot is still a bit numb, but most of my strength has come back.
