I have a small red tender to the touch bump on my neck a few inches behind my ear. Could this be an infection?

Several inches behind (but lower) I have a small red bump that is very tender.  At first I thought it was a pimple or a bug bite but it doesn't ich and is bigger than a pimple and has gotten painful over the last day or two.  Could this be an infetion?
