I am 78 years old and when I eat my back is in severe pain and loose my appetite.

I have had severe back pain while eating...my doctor says I might have blood in my bowel and wants to run an upper gi along a colonspathy

I agree with your MD, possible gall bladder, bowel or stomach problems.  You can get visceral referred pain-pain from organs- which is common. Like if you have bad gas you can get low back pain.
