How to speed up healing of injuries

Posted Jan 21 2011 8:20am

Typically, it takes 6-8 weeks for injuries to heal but there are ways to speed up the rehabilitation. Chiropractic care can help 85% of people with injuries become pain free quickly. Many will require additional care to achieve full recovery.

To speed up healing of injuries, remember movement means improvement. This is especially true with injuries that are characterized by poor strength of soft tissue like muscles or ligaments. Rehabilitation protocols which imcdorporate early application of mobilization have been shown to get greated results than protocols which emphasize prolonged immobilization.

Speeding up injury healing occurs in three phases. The first is using ice to decrease swelling and immobiliation to avoid further injury. Phase 2 starts after 72 hours with passive, assisted exercise. Phase 3 encourages performance and strengthening.

The most important principle is pain free exercise of the area. The muscles should be overloaded but not overwhelmed. This is important and if you have an injury, working with a Chiropractor trained in rehabilitation is important.
