GREAT NEWS FOR FIBROMYALGIA SUFFERERS...

Posted Oct 11 2010 4:09am

I'm sure there are many of you out there who have suffered the pain and exhaustion of Fibromyalgia to only be told by your GP that it may be all in your mind. Well, the good news is that increased recognition of Fibromyalgia in both primary care and UK rheumatology clinics has shot up since the publication of the ACR's classification criteria of Fibromyalgia in 1990.

Apparently from 1975 – 1990, there were only '17' projects involving Fibromyalgia, whereas from 1992 to the present day, there have been '500' projects involving Fibroymyalgia. They say that people with Fibromyalgia account for a large proportion of rheumatology outpatient visits and Fibromyalgia is the second or third most common diagnosis made by British rheumatologists.

I guess the ones that are still being ignored should never give up hope and ask for second opinions and referrals to a hospital that deals in Fibromyalgia. Knowledge seems to be the key to this disease so that you can explain your problems to your GP and a diary of your symptoms is always very helpful.
