Do Children get Migraine Headaches? Is the problem physical or chemical?

I began to have headaches when I was very young. In fact, my first visit to the chiropractor was for neck pain and headaches. Our family doctor had no answers, and thankfully my mother was smart enough to take me to Dr. Frank in Miami, FL...who fixed me after 2 sessions.

This type of story is happening thousands of times per day around the world. Sure, my headaches had a physical cause...a bone out of place, putting pressure on a nerve...but in my opinion, most headaches do.

Look at it this way...If you have a pebble in your shoe and it is causing you pain...the problem is physical. If you take a pain pill, which is a chemical solution, it will only mask the pain...but the pebble is still there. The longer the pebble is there, the worse the pain will become over time. You could get a cortisone injection, a massage, acupuncture, whatever. You could do an Indian rain dance around the foot...but until you remove the pebble (the physical stress causing the problem), the problem remains.

...If the problem is physical.

I'm sure you are thinking...How does my kid get a bone out of place in the neck?

HUH? Most problems adults present with happened when they were kids. All the spills and falls we took growing up. Sitting in classrooms all day. Sleeping funny. Sports. Learning to ride a bike. Sitting in front of a computer/TV screen. On and on.

And man...it sure is easy to go down the wrong path when it comes to getting treatment for migraine headaches in children. You can't believe the stories I have heard about kids becoming zombies from the medication. I have had many adults that I have helped over the years that have had migraines all their lives, and have been taking headache medication the entire time. Nobody could figure out the right drug for them (chemical). You know why? Because the problem was physical.

Do yourself and your children a favor if they are suffering from tension or migraine headaches...visit a chiropractor. If the headaches are being caused by something physical that is out of alignment and not working right...the solution is physical.

A chiropractor will gently adjust the misaligned bone (subluxation) back into alignment (if a physical problem is found).  It does not usually hurt and results happen quick...sometimes on the spot.

Think I am kidding...well then go find out for yourself. And if you are not under chiropractic care, get yourself checked too. Chiropractic is a family affair.
