Diet is important in combating fatigue

Poor diet is another cause of fatigue. Many Americans are not getting the right kind of food which produces energy. In fact many people skip meals altogether for a variety of reasons. Some people are trying to lose weight or some aren’t hungry in the morning. Or the breakfast might consist of coffee and a Danish or pop tart. Those meals will give a quick burst of energy because of all the sugar but in an hour or so, a crash will be experienced and then the fatigue sets in. The next step is multiple cups of “high test” coffee with sugar and the cycle continues.

This diet is inadequate in protein, vitamins and minerals. It will lead to obesity, anxiety, fatigue and a host of other complaints so prevalent today. In order to have good energy, your body must have the right fuel to run on…just like your car. Try eating 4-6 small meals throughout the day. Eat every 3 hours will keep your “fuel” level consistent and provide the energy you need. Many people who are chronically fatigued, suffer from hypoglycemia or low blood sugar.

Substitute protein for sweets at every opportunity. Low fat cheese or a few nuts will provide a good source of minerals and energy as well as protein. Try a protein shake with added fresh fruit for breakfast or a mid morning meal. Don’t worry about the fat content in nuts. I am suggesting 1-2 ounces of nuts not a whole bag. These have good fats in them which is important to your body and are used to produce hormones which your body needs to run properly.

Add B vitamins to your diet as well. These are found in liver, brewer’s yeast and wheat germ to name a few. These whole foods also provide other vitamins and mineral which are fuel for your body. Try some of these things, then e-mail me at drcarol@megahits.com and let me know what worked for you.
