Chronic Pain Websites and Forums

Posted Apr 19 2010 10:13am

I don't know about you but I personally would rather chat in a forum than attend a group therapy session. I have been to numerous types of chronic pain/Fibromyalgia support group/therapy session, but to be quite honest with you I found them quite depressing. However I have found some forums very good for support when I'm not well or in need of some answers for a new type of pain I may have. It's also someone else to talk to if you are having a bad day.

I have gone through my favourites list and I will list the ones which I think are very good but I do try to stick with UK sites as there are so many American ones and I find they take different drugs and have different operations to us.

One of the best UK sites if run by Jan Sadler, who also has books and cd's on coping with pain. Jan's website is www.painsupport.co.uk and is free to join. I've made some good contacts in the past when I needed some reassurance on my back pain and I found the forum chatty and relaxed, with lots of response to your questions.

Pain Management, www.painmanagement.org.uk is a well run site with a lot of information on different types of pain.

Pain concern, www.painconcern.org.uk is a membership organization and charges £13 a year to join or just £8 a year for the magazine but you can look at previous magazine copies which are online in pdf format. They also have a discussion forum and lots of articles on pain, pain news and fact sheets, and it also has the best list of useful web sites.

Action on pain, www.action-on-pain.co.uk is a national charity providing support for people affected by chronic pain either as a sufferer or a carer/relative. They also have a mobile information unit which tours the UK.

And of course BackCare which I wrote about yesterday is www.backcare.org.uk

Finally, I've added one American site as I just think it is so good http://pain-topics.org which has open access to clinical news, information and research. A very interesting read if you have some time on your hands as it is quite a big website to get around.
