San Francisco Chiropractor and Chronic Back Pain Doctor comments:
Some of the medical terminology that is used to describe degenerative arthritis in the neck is confusing. Basically, cervical spondylosis is another name for osteoarthritis of the neck, degenerative disc disease, or abnormal wear and tear of the spinal discs, spinal bones, ligaments, and cartilage. For different reasons we lose the normal position of the spinal vertebrae, and the weight becomes distributed abnormally (sports, falls, accidents, work, mental stress, life). This puts pressure on the joints in the wrong places. Bone, remodels and changes shape when stress is applied. This is called Wolff's Law. So, over time these abnormal mechanical forces can result in disc degeneration, spinal stenosis, and even disc herniations. I found a really good explanation and overview of cervical spondylosis on the health page of Chicago's NBC5.com.
If you are suffering from cervical arthritis, DDD, spinal disc disease or any other form of degeneration of the neck, you should consider a visit to your chiropractor. Your chiropractor can help to reposition or adjust your bones back into their normal alignment and slow down the degenerative process.
