Whiplash treatment san francisco
If you have been in a car accident recently and are suffering from a whiplash injury...time is of the essence. You want to make sure you get the right kind of treatment for your neck pain (or low back pain) so that the injuries from the auto accident do not become chronic.

Here are some of the most common symptoms that are typical of a cervical sprain/strain whiplash trauma:

  • Neck pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Headaches
  • Weakness of grip
  • Numbness and tingling
  • Insomnia
  • Stiff and painful range of motion
  • Loss of memory
  • Night pain

So as you can see...whiplash injuries are nothing to mess with.

Whiplash injuries to the low back or upper back are also common, and can be very painful.

The most important action you can take after a car accident is to visit a chiropractor. What happens is bones get jarred out of alignment and muscles and ligaments strained or sprained, which can lead to permanent damage and scar tissue of not treated properly.

In fact, many of the patients we treat with chronic neck pain or chronic low back pain have previous whiplash injuries that were not treated properly.

A chiropractor will check your cervical and lumbar range of motion. We will check your arm and leg strength. We will check for signs of soft tissue damage by feeling for areas of inflammation and pain. We will check your cervical and lumbar nerves to make sure they are functioning properly along with your muscle strength and relexes.

Your chiropractor will take all of this information along with the history of your accident and come up with a comprehensive treatment plan that will allow your body to heal with minimal loss of function.

How long this takes depends on the severity of the whiplash injury and any pre-existing conditions you may have already had.

In any case...the last thing you want to do is nothing...as this can lead to chronic neck pain or chronic back pain down the road. Chiropractic can still help with chronic pain...but it's much easier to deal with in the beginning right after the accident.

So...if you have been involved in a recent auto accident or know someone that has...consider chiropractic care right away. And if have suffered injuries from a previous whiplash injury that were left untreated...it may be a good idea to get checked, as there may be problems that could pop-up down the road.
