The best thing to do is have professionally made orthotics. They will give you the adequate lift where it's needed as well as support all the arches of the feet. If the leg length (anatomic length- actual measured length) is uneven by a large amount it can cause spinal and pelvic issues like misalignments and pressure on nerves. A big curvature in the spine is called scoliosis.
Does this compress discs and make the spine shorter? Technically, if your discs degenerate and flatten that does mean the spine height will be less. This however is on a very small scale and is usually only noticed over years and often in combination with poor posture.
The last issue that it could be is simply a pelvic or hip issue. The leg length discrepency could be coming from that. If you find a chiropractor or podiatrist who specializes in orthotics he should be able to tell you exaclty what's going on.

I have a leg discrepency and have put a sort of insole into the shoe of my shorter leg to prevent further pressure on the longer one. The insole doesn't quite provide the lift provided to even out both legs, it actually makes the shorter leg larger than the other. I feel now as if my back is shorter in stature. Is it possible that by having to lift up more wiht my right leg, my hip is being pushed upward? Or are my disks being compressed?
