There are many causes of hand pain. Sometimes you just use them too much on the computer. Other times you use them in a position they are not used to being in for an extended period of time. Like when you assemble a new toy for your kid. Or, you perform some kind of task you don't do very often, such as packing boxes when you move, or deep sea fishing.

Most of the time the hand pain just goes away...and that was that.

However...sometimes you really over-do it and you actually pull some of the carpal bones (carpal means wrist in Latin) out of alignment or strain/sprain the ligaments or muscles in the forearm, elbow or hand. This can end up pinching a nerve in the wrist called the median nerve (as well as other sorts of hand injuries). We call this carpal tunnel syndrome.

This will most likely require some form of treatment...and YES...chiropractic can help your hand pain.

Problems in the neck can also cause pain and symptoms in the hand. The reason for this is that that nerves that control the arms and hands originate in the neck. The nerves exit from in between bones in the neck that can lose their proper alignment and offend and irritate the same nerves they were designed to protect.

When a bone (vertebrae) in the neck loses is normal alignment and irritates (pinches) a nerve, we call this a subluxation...which is what chiropractors treat.

Subluxations in the neck can occur from poor posture, sports injuries, bad ergonomics, stress, slips and falls, car accidents, etc.

A good chiropractor, especially one that treats extremities day in and day out, will always check a patient from neck to fingertips on both sides when they present with hand pain.

Chiropractic adjustments to the neck, arms, and hands. Active Release Techniques (ART). Deep Tissue Laser . Cervical Traction. Ice, and Exercise are all therapies we use at Executive Express Chiropractic to treat neck, arm, and hand pain.

Most of the time a sore hand will heal quickly. Other times it can take a while. It just depends on the nature of the problem. Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSI) that have developed slowly over time, tend to take longer to heal.

The best thing to do if you have hand pain that you are concerned about is to see a chiropractor... chances are it will really help.
