ANOTHER TYPE OF BACK PAIN – KIDNEY INFECTION

Kidney infection pain is felt in the mid-back, just below your ribs which is often accompanied by a fever with chills and a general feeling of being unwell and should not be mistaken as a muscle or disc problem in your back.

Kidney infection pain usually comes from the organ itself but often appears as back pain. Kidney pain is also quite tricky because it can radiate to many different parts of the body. It is also acute in origin, meaning that it usually has a very rapid onset, and typically does not last any longer than the infection in the kidneys will last.

If the pain is extreme and on one side, then you could be passing a kidney stone, either way you should get medical advice and see your GP as soon as possible in order to get on some antibiotics to treat the infection.

Kidney infection pain does go away with the healing of a kidney infection whereas back pain from an injury to the back usually does not go away as quickly.
