Whiffle Ball as Respite

Posted Oct 23 2008 2:10pm

It takes a kind of obsessive nuttiness to build an authentic whiffle ball field in your backyard and then host games between rival states, doesn't it?  Asperger's Conversations takes a break while psychologists and docs from Vermont and New Hampshire battle it out on the field.  Saturday's games were played in Chesterfield, NH at the home of Dr. Joe Pumilia, where Vermont and New Hampshire split a pair.  Mick "the Quick" Durante from Vermont hit the first ever homerun at "Chester Field" (although yours truly hit one just moments earlier, only to find that "the pitcher was only warming up."  Here was the crew after the game:

070922wiffleballteams Dr. Dan Rath emerged from his slump with some key hits.  Welkowitz made an impressive dive in center field which left him dirty and unapproachable.   The players (left to right) were Dan Rath, Joe Pumilia, Chris Hardy, Mitch Speaks, Jeremy Hoffman, Larry Welkowitz, Mick Durante, and Jeff Newcomer.  Next game we'll post some video!
