I am always in awe of and in love with my job. What could be cooler than to make music to help people? But as with anything, it always helps to have an infusion of fresh ideas and energy, and that is why I absolutely love attending conferences.
It’s a month earlier than last year, but tomorrow I’ll be leaving on a jet plane to head to St. Charles, Illinois for my second ever national conference of the American Music Therapy Association.
So what are some of the things that I am looking forward to?
Thursday, I’ll attend my first ever Student Affairs Advisory Board meeting as the advisor for the south eastern region. I already know a few of the folks on that board, so I’m hoping that I’ll fit right in and learn a lot more about my responsibilities and creative ways to help the students in the southeast continue to be amazing.
Thursday night holds the opening session (which I’ve heard will be awesome!) and the exhibit spectacular, which I am very excited to play a part in with my friend Kat Fulton and the Music Therapy Ed booth. I’ll have something for you if you want to
Friday morning at 9:15, I make my national conference presentation debut! I’ll be presenting on Web Based Business Practices with some video help from Kat (really there is just not enough time in the world!). Come see me in the amphitheater and learn how I use the internet to keep myself (somewhat) organized!
The rest of the day has certain task force related activities. I’ll be hanging out at the advocacy booth from 3:30-5:00 pm, sharing my advocacy stories and hopefully recording yours! That evening has the task force reception, followed by a tweet up! On twitter? Follow us with the hashtag #amta12!
Saturday is a generic conference attendee day for me (finally!). I’ll be sitting back and soaking up knowledge in sessions about music therapy and eating disorders, social stories, songwriting, and vocal psychotherapy.
Sunday morning, I get to introduce my reimbursement guru, Jamie George as she presents about the differences between subcontractors and employees, then it’s time to hop a plane back home.
Phew. That was a lot. Thank goodness for my web based google calendar and synchronization to my smart phone and ipad, otherwise I would never remember it all!
