Weekly Wrap Up: The last week of summer vacation edition

Posted Jul 29 2011 1:45pm

Can you believe it?  Summer is over for us!  Well, that just stinks.  The children think so too although they are still excited that they got one to start with.  Usually, we work all summer long.  Then we take a break from Thanksgiving to January.  Continuity is good for Logan so we keep the lessons going with minimal breaks.  That simply could not happen this year.  Nope.  I needed a mental break as much as them.

We've had a rough year.  Not to mention that my mom had some health issues this summer that needed attending to as well.  The schedule was hectic and our nerves were shot.  Time for a break.

We also had several planning, scheduling & curriculum issues to address as well .  Oftentimes, it pays to take a break to clear the brain.  It behooved me to step away then come back and reassess our situation.

We played in the pool, had friends over, went to the free movies and did free bowling.  We had camp to attend, VBS to prepare for and birthdays to celebrate.  We spent time in our garden , visited with Granny who is 99 years young , went to a family reunion and ate ice cream A LOT!  Madison got to spend the night with a friend on more than one occasion.  We had playgroup with new friends who don't get to come during the school year.  It was a summer to remember!

Our butterfly garden is giving us gobs of caterpillars

BUT we must start our lessons again.  We are probably as prepared for the new term as we have ever been.  I have all our books ordered and laid out.  I have learned new techniques to help the children .  All is not lost though.  We have a long weekend at the lake planned for August and a trip to Fort Jackson, SC to see Tiger at Family Day before he is shipped out for advanced training in Arizona until January.  We can still play in the pool and have friends over just after lessons are done.  It will be good to get back into to swing of things again. Remind me of that in mid October, will ya?
