This Month in Music Therapy

Posted Nov 20 2012 11:00am
Thanksgiving has a tendency to bring up a sentimental side in me as I get older. Or maybe I become more sentimental as I get older and Thanksgiving is just an appropriate time to express it.

Nevertheless, since November 1st, I’ve been integrating themes of thankfulness and gratitude into my music therapy sessions with children and adults alike. The primary song that I’ve been utilizing to cue my clients to express what they are thankful for is “Things I’m Thankful For” by Hap Palmer. I enjoy using this song because it states that we can be thankful for things that are close to home or far away, and providing a wonderful opportunity in the chorus for us to fill in the blank for things that we are thankful for.

In honor of our short week and Thanksgiving on Thursday, I wanted to share some of the greatest hits from my child and adult clients. Let’s see if you can figure out which is which!

  • My Mom
  • My Dad
  • I guess my brother
  • Food
  • My health
  • This jacket
  • Music time
  • My Nintendo DSi
  • My church
  • My bed
  • Whiskey
  • Today
  • Family
  • Children
  • The sun
  • My life
  • My sister
  • My teacher
  • Turkey

Can you add to the list of things to be thankful for? My post from last week outlines a few of the things that I am thankful for.
