This month has been a whirl! In between attending the national conference of the American Music Therapy Association, hanging out at Buddy Walk 2012, and a plethora of amazing music therapy sessions, I’m not sure where the month went!
“She loves music! I’ve never seen her play for that long before.”
Heard from an aide during a music therapy assessment
A parent was able to leave the music therapy session for the first time WITHOUT any distress from her child. Talk about focus on completing music therapy activities! Bye mom!
“I don’t want to miss music next week! That’s not fair!”
This was overheard after a music therapy session during a discussion about a possible cancellation for the following week.
“We’ve been really impressed in the improvements we’ve seen in her trunk control. It seems like the music therapy is really helping and motivating her.”
I love catching up with other professionals working with the same clients. Hearing that they are seeing results of the work we do is so awesome!
“I’m very excited about not having to go to therapy for a few weeks- except this one. I’m going to make sure that I still get to come here.”
One of our clients is going to be making a visit to the hospital and will be out of therapy for a few weeks on the doctor’s orders. This was her response. I love it!
This morning, I spent nearly a full minute imitating 3-4 note melodies on the recorder with one of my clients. The reward? The turn, the eye contact, the smile, and the intentional repetition of the melody. The fact that he then ran over and sat in my lap didn’t hurt either.
I hope that you enjoyed the belated version of this month in music therapy! What have been your wow moments this October? See you in the comments!
