My 5 year old son was diagnosed with autism almost 3 years ago. He's a great little guy and is doing really well at Outreach (an autism unit within a regular mainstream school).
Since he was 1 I was worried about him as he had no speech...otherwise all was perfectly "normal"...but I'm really glad I listened to my instinct and got him tested as he is now at an appropriate school setting, is receiving OT and ST .
As he got older, other traits emerged (such as lack of eye contact, lining up toys, obsessions with Bob the Builder etc) but we got him off to a good start with an early diagnosis.
Gotta say, you're very observant...well done (and fingers crossed all is well)

My 2 1/2 yr. old son is very social and affectionate. He has a very large vocabulary from early on and easily carries on clear conversations. However, he will repeat a sentance over and over until I tell him "yes", and then i,myself, repeat what he said. Sometimes he continues to repeat it.He loves to line up items. He does not do it for extremely long periods of time, but often throught the day.The past month or so I have noticed a decrease with his direct eye contact, but he is very observant of everything around him and interacts with the world around him.He has a infatuation with "holding my hair" as he puts it and has recently started fondling and scrathing his own often.Do you think that based on this info, I should have him tested for autism?
