Or should it be Return Of The
Stims.
( stimming - click) Two of Twinkles old
Stims have returned as the title says. The first
isn't so much as a problem as the second. The first is finger flicking, this was one of her very first
Stims. She used to do it all the time. Then for about over a year this ceased to happen. But now it's started again. Finger flicking is a rapid flicking of the fingers,
sometimes close to the eyes. Finger flicking may be an attempt to stimulate the visual system or it could be for any of these reasons:
- An attempt to reduce sensory input and environmental stimulation. For example, focusing on a particular movement may reduce the impact of a distressing environment.
- A coping strategy for dealing with uncertainty and confusion.
- A coping strategy for dealing with stress, anxiety and possibly Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
- The individual’s enjoyment of learning about a particular subject or gathering together items of interest.
- A source of pleasure for individuals who have limited access to other sources of enjoyment
- A self reinforcing strategy for dealing with some of the above, which becomes worse over time
The second
Stim is hair twirling. This has become a problem as you can imagine. She is twisting her hair to the extent that it is turning into the most incredible knots. I feel the hair twirling maybe due to her levels of anxiety rising. She has been very stressed lately.
Perhaps it due to the change in the routine because of the Easter break. I hope when she settles back into her routine at preschool she becomes calmer.

On a really positive note Twinkle painted a beautiful picture in the week and i filmed her painting it.
I'm really impressed and will post it soon, once
I've processed the video.
