Product Review: Let's Do Ice Cream Cones

Posted Apr 01 2009 2:52pm

I was thinking of writing my top 10 wish list of GFCF items I hoped someone would produce, and one of those items would be ice cream cones.

I have such fond memories of going to the neighborhood ice cream store as a child for a special treat. But sadly, I have not been able to share this delight with the Prince. It is one of the things that seemed like such a sacrifice and one of life's simple pleasures that I wanted him to experience.

The Prince had even been requesting ice cream cones lately, and sadly accepted the fact that they were not good for him or that they could make him sick. I know I could make them, but unfortunately, my cooking skills, though pretty good, are not at that level.

But then, to my surprise, I found these: made by Edward and Sons Trading Company, their "Let's Do" line. (I guess this product is so new it is not on the website yet). They also make GFCF sprinkles. To my South Floridian friends, I found these at Nutrition S'mart, which seems to have added even more kid-friendly GFCF products. If you haven't shopped there for awhile, check it out. At the Pembroke Pines location they've re-organized and have their expanded GFCF section on one aisle. It really appears as if they are catering to the needs of GFCF children.

The cones are very light and flaky. Just add your favorite dairy-free ice cream, such as Tofutti, Good Karma Organic Rice Divine, or Turtle Mountain's new coconut milk ice cream line and top with Let's Do sprinkles.

The Prince was charmed. I probably derived as much pleasure from watching him enjoy his treat, as he did from eating it! I felt a little sad that he had to wait until he was 6 years old to enjoy his first ice cream cone, but The Professor noted that he's enjoying it now and that is all that matters.
