We are taking the Fireproof marriage class at church. It is a couple's study that you do in a small group with three or four other couples. Ok, I know that I told you in an earlier
post that we weren't going to marriage counseling. Michael and I have a great marriage. Could it use some work? Sure, that's how you get a great marriage. You work at it.
According to the
National Autism Association (NAA), couples that have a child with autism have an 80% divorce rate! Can you believe that??? I can , because autism sucks the life out of you so much that you don't have anything left to give your spouse. When you are in the crisis mode of autism, it's all you can do to remember to breathe. But your spouse is an important part of the team so you must work at their relationship as well. The NAA feels so strongly about this that they offer the Family First scholarship that covers marriage counseling. What a great idea! Are you listening

Every week in our marriage class, we are given an assignment for the week. This week, we had a list of 5 questions to answer. Then we are take the one with the lowest score and work on it ths week. For me, it was do you pray for your husband? My answer was a sad infrequently. I am embarrassed to say that I take my blessing of a husband for granted a lot of times. What a sad thing to admit. Michael is so laid back and loves me so much that I forget that he needs encouragement and prayer as much as I do. In fact, I should be praying for him first. He is the leader of our home. The Bible tells me that I am to submit to him and encourage him in all things. Without him, I would be lost and our family would be incomplete.
So, for this week, I resolve to pray for my handsome man without ceasing. Every time that I pray throughout the day, I will lift him up first. His needs are to supersede all of mine. What a wonderful way to glorify my Lord and Savior. What a fantastic lesson to demonstrate to my children!
