I haven't been good about keeping up with what Drew is eating; however, I really didn't change anything for a few weeks. But, I added carrots back in two days ago, turkey (rotisserie) yesterday - and he loved it which is a huge deal. He's never liked that kind of texture. I added winter squash today.
He's been on two L.Acidophilus since Sunday and two enzymes. We started a tiny piece of Nizoral (anti-fungal) today.

DAN! doctor appt: We visited our local DAN! doctor last week to go over much awaited test results. I am so unhappy with Drew's doctor and cannot wait to switch. I believe he has good intentions but between his office staff being absolutely ridiculous and their overbookings...I just can't take it anymore. "Recovering Ty's" mom said something that made a bunch of sense to me. She said that she thinks of DAN drs on tier levels. You have your top tier DAN drs, mid level and so forth. The top tier are those that are actually teaching the others and actively researching. The mid tier are those that are involved, attend the conferences, and want to learn. And, the bottom tier would be those that just attend a DAN conference so that they can get the "tag" of a DAN! doctor. Who do I have now? Well, I'd say his in between the bottom and mid level. Who do we want to go to? Absolutely, a top tier doctor!!!!! I want someone who has proven results, recovered kids, actively researching and making things happen, and one who is sought after to be the "teacher" to the other physicians who are opening their minds to this new approach.
Ok, I digressed. So, we knew we needed to get these test results back from our current doctor. And, we needed them to be interpreted although I'll still trust our new doctor much more than this one. Anyway, for the results. Well, I'd love to report all of his results but this stupid group of office staff did not send off Drew's blood to the right lab and didn't take enough to get all the results. Meanwhile, over the last three months, they didn't bother to check into it...possibly discover their mistake, and have us come back in to draw more blood in order to have the full results back in time for our appt. NOPE. Instead, we met with the doctor and went over the results that he did have. We then had to drag my poor baby back in for more blood work.
Ugh. So, from these results....he showed a significant amount of yeast and bacterial dysbiosis. I'd be freaking but I'm not because when this test was taken, Drew had just started the SCD. He was only able to eat meat and fruit for a while. So, I believe these results are a little tainted. We'll retest in a few months; but we will still treat for yeast.
He did show extremely high levels of what appears to be mercury in his lab test from France. The only way to know for sure would be to do a chelation challenge. We'll be holding off on that until we see our new doctor.
On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the worst, his impaired methylation came back as a 10. !!! Also, on a scale of 1-10, 10 being highest, his mitochondrial disease risk was at a 10 !!!! If you recall from my previous post regarding the DAN conference, I mentioned how important the methlyation process is in making glutathione. I also mentioned the genetic risk factor for mitochondrial dysfuntion. Well, what do you know.... Drew has both. And for the cynics reading this, these tests are completed by independent labs that if you were to go to a GI specialist, they would send bloodwork to the same lab.
Sooooo....what is our plan? We were given an anti-bacterial for the bad bacteria and an anti-fungal for the yeast, a suppository for the chelation challenge, an order of transdermal glutathione, and a prescription for an increase in MB-12 frequency.
With that being said...I have learned that I still need to trust my own gut on things. I don't trust anyone 100%. I believe the doctor means well but I just don't feel comfortable starting all of those things with Drew right now.
So, we increased his probiotic hoping to eliminate the need for the anti-bacterial. We are going to start the anti-fungal treatment (although I'm hesitant but hubby insists), we are going to wait on the glutathione, we're going to order and start Super Nu Thera and we're going to wait to increase the MB-12. Basically, we want to work on the yeast and possible bacteria issue first, add the multi-vitamin next, potential increase MB-12 , and wait on everything else until our appt with Dr. Levinson.
And, that's where we're at today.
