Rogan has never had an issue showing affection toward me. After all, I am his mother! Tell that to any "neurotypical" kid as his own mom smooches him in front of his friends, right?!?
The other day at daycare, after I signed Rogan into his classroom for the day, I stepped inside to give him a hug goodbye. "Come over here, Mom," Rogan took my hand and led me into the hall and stepped a few feet to the side of the doorway.
I chuckled to myself, trying to hide my smile. I mused, "Why?"
He matter-of-factly replied, "Because I don't want to be embarrassed."
Once the coast was clear, he gave me a kiss and hug and headed back inside.
I had a bittersweet skip to my step as I walked back to my car. (Mostly sweet.) My little boy with autism was doing his best to fit in.
