When Madison first asked to be baptized over a year ago, she called it getting dunked. It took me quite a while to figure out what she was talking about.
Madison: Mom, I want to get dunked. Me: What? Madison: I want to get dunked at church. Me: By whom? Madison: Pastor Frank like Leigha Me: What?? Madison: You know in the pool where Logan splashed the choir. Me: Aaaah, you want to be baptized. Madison: Yup
Now, this was last year. I talked with her at length about what it meant to be baptized. I truly believed that she didn't get it yet. A few of her friends had recently been baptized. I felt that she really wanted to do it but didn't understand the significance of it. So, I made the unpopular decision to make her wait. I told her that she had to be 7 years old at least.
When VBS came around in July, I was surprised to hear her tell Mandy (my fellow VBS teacher) what it meant to be a Christian. So I decided to ask her again about what it meant to be baptized.
Me: Madison , what do you have to do to get into heaven? Madison: Accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Me: What else? Madison: nothing. The Bible says that once you ask Jesus into your heart as your Lord and Savior, you are saved. Jesus washes away all your sin. Me: Have you prayed and asked Him to be your Lord and Savior? Madison: Well , I asked him but I didn't pray.
So, I sent her out of the room with Mandy and another child that wanted to pray. She went through the ABC 's of becoming a Christian with them. Then they prayed together. Madison was so happy and I was too! One more member of the family of God! God is good all the time!
Btw, there was such a long delay in her coming forward to the church and the baptism because we had to wait for Michael aka Dad to have a Sunday off!
