See that lovely bump on Madison's right foot? It is the size of a golf ball and had us really concerned. It just appeared one day a couple of months ago and has gotten progressively bigger as time as progressed. It doesn't hurt and is really squishy! So, off to the doctor we go. We had poked fun at Madison and told her that they could cut off her foot. How great would it be to be able to take her foot off to paint her toenails!! hehehe! I know we were torturing her but if you can't torture your kids a little bit then what fun is that? After a few minutes waiting for the doctor, Madison asked if she was really going to cut off her foot. I explain that amputating any extremities is done at the hospital. Relieved, she happily waits for the doctor. Where does the doctor send us? Yup, you guessed it. To the hospital to get an ultrasound on her foot. I thought that Madison was going to pass out in the parking lot when we pulled in. She finally agreed to walk in with us after several minutes of us reassuring her that all they were going to do was to take a video of her foot. All of a sudden that joke about losing her foot didn't seem quite so funny. A week later, we end up at the orthopedic surgeon. He does the high tech exam of using a flashlight in a dark room to look at it and proclaims she may keep her foot! Woohoo! High fives all around! After checking her x rays to make sure that the bones are growing correctly , he tells us the diagnosis. Are you ready???? Seems Miss Madison decided to grow several inches in the past few months all at once. Grew so fast that one of two things happened. The first scenario is that it is the cushion of liquid that goes between the joints in her foot. After awhile, it should settle back into it's correct spot. The second scenario is that it is a pocket of dead cells & liquid that accumulated in that area during the amazing growth spurt. Either way, the plan is to wait and see. If it changes like grows bigger or gets harder then we are to take her back. At the end of the year if she still has it then we are to take her back & schedule surgery to either remove it or put it back in its original spot. For now, it's business as usual. God is good all the time!
