Cue brass band and confetti…

I can hardly believe this day has come, but we have a potty-trained child.

This has been a very long process, although I am sure it could have gone faster if we were more disciplined or had followed more of an ABA approach. Honestly, though, we didn’t see any signs of readiness until partway through an intensive auditory and sensory integration program he did last spring/summer.

However we got there, we have reached our main goal and the Little Guy is very proud of himself for the accomplishment. After more than a week of him consistently initiating trips to the bathroom and not having a meltdown every time we suggested he visit the potty, his dad was at last convinced that he had earned the promised big prize.

So off they went yesterday to the big toy store and emerged victorious with figures of the entire Justice League!

For mom, the best parts are things like not having to convince a daycare to let him come there even though he is still in pull-ups or having your heart sink when the announcement comes for preschool VBS and it is limited to children who are potty-trained. And we won’t even talk about the horrible lady at the Hop ‘n Shop play area at the mall. Oh, yeah, and not having to change any more messy pull-ups!!

We still have to keep our eye on the clock and make sure he doesn’t wait too long, but I think that is pretty typical for newly-trained kids. Way to go, Little Guy!!
