Motor skills in general, both fine and gross, tend to be areas of difficulty for children with autism. Mealtimes are usually a bit messy. So tonight, when Rogan dropped his fork and spilled some of his food on the freshly washed floor, it shouldn't have been a big deal. Instead, I dramatically sighed as I retrieved a damp towel to clean it up. In turn, Rogan matter-of-factly declared, "Mom, I'm not trying to wear you out."
Laughing has a way of automatically wiping the annoyance of one's face. I hugged him and he told me, for the 32nd time today, "I love you, Mom."
I love you too, Rogan. Thanks for helping me to keep things in perspective.
