Clive is home ... (but we'll be going back!)

Posted Jul 26 2010 2:09pm
Home from Hilton Head but missing it so much already ...
Thank you so much to Jane and Petey for making our holiday so special ....
Petey and Clive loved hanging together ....
Hilton Head never had such attractive life-dogs! (We know some of you may have seen some of these photos on Petey's blog but we wanted to share them again!)

We loved the seafood on Hilton Head - the fried shrimp in particular ...
All those yummy smells from the Gullah foodstand at the Farmer's Market .... it was fascinating finding out about so many new foods and cultures ....
The pecan pie was to die for ....

We had a lovely (if very hot) afternoon in Bluffton walking around the Farmer's market ...

Despite having paid a 'speeding fine' of $185 that same morning! Murray's Dad will forever remember to drive very SLOWLY in South Carolina! Twenty minutes after arriving in Savannah the previous evening the traffic cops stopped him and very nearly arrested him!

He was an 'out of State' driver and they were convinced he wouldn't show up to pay his fine the next day! Murray was getting sick in the back of car, his Mom was in tears, Clive was barking at the rather threatening cop, only Sorcha remained calm and kept telling her Dad to 'chill' and not lose his temper! When the handcuffs appeared and the second cop car - we were really starting to get worried!

Murray's Mom couldn't drive ... her name wasn't on the rental agreement so we asked the cop if he was going to arrest all of us because otherwise .... was he just going to take Murray's Dad into custody and leave Murray, his service dog, his sister and his distaught Mom on the side of the road! Thankfully, we were able to ring Petey's Mom and call on her friend, attorney and local judge for help!

Minutes passed ... tears flowed, Murray was hysterical, Clive tried his best to bark his 'downright' annoyance at this whole situation ... we were tourists twenty minutes in the country!

When finally, the cops agreed to let Murray's dad go, the handcuffs were put away, his passport was confiscated .... he was warned to appear in Hardeville Police Station the following morning!

So now we know, drive very slowly in South Carolina!

However, all the trauma of the speeding fine was washed away in the following days .... lots of sailing and swimming helped!

Sailing with dolphins, pelicans, planes doing aerobatics overhead while fireworks exploded in the distance are holiday memories that will last a lifetime ...

Thank you so much to Petey and his Mom ...

Clive was really upset to be leaving New York and Jane and Petey .... look at that sad face!
Thank you Jane! See you in Dublin very soon we hope!
ps - did we mention we will be back!

We know now to drive real SLOWLY!

- We have lots more photos of Hilton Head, Beaufort and Savannah - we really did a lot and enjoyed every minute of our time in Hilton Head but we'll share the photos over the coming days ...

and then of course, we had NEW YORK!
WE LOVED NEW YORK!

So stay with us this week for a lot more holiday adventures ...
when Clive and Murray go travelling ... there is guaranteed excitment!
