Canadian Stuff

Posted May 20 2009 1:24pm
In my e-mail this morning, there was an update from the FEAT/AB message board with a subject of "SAF". (I don't often post to that board, but I like to keep tabs on it so getting it in e-mail is useful.) I followed the link and read about an organization in Edmonton called the Self Advocacy Federation. It sounds pretty cool. I'd link you to their web site, but they don't seem to have one. Basically, it seems to be a group of people with various developmental disabilities who give presentations about their lives. It sounds like it may be similar to the Disability Action Hall here in Calgary, though I don't know much about either group. I'm hoping to attend the next DAH meeting (in July).

As I was attempting to research the SAF, I came across a very cool web site, called " What Sorts of People Should There Be?" I think this site - and its accompanying blog (of which Kristina and Amanda are already aware) - are very interesting, and I can't wait to explore it all in the coming days.

It's very exciting to discover things like this when I'm not really looking for them on a regular basis. Hopefully I'll locate more as time goes on!
