This is a mandrill. It's J's favorite animal.
He has several stuffed ones. His favorite is one that's very life-like. He calls calls it "Little Drillie". J brings it everywhere with him. There have been several times people have thought we have a real mandrill with us, that's how life-like it looks. Or I should say used to look. It's pretty matted now, but people still do a double take whenever they see it. J gets a kick out of it. I think the reason he likes mandrills so much is because of the color pattern on their faces. It does make the mandrill a very exotic looking animal. I wonder if there's something about the color pattern that J finds soothing?
This is a white tiger. It's Y's favorite animal.
She has several stuffed ones of it. She has one that's life-size and takes up a lot of space in her bedroom. She's had friends and people go into her room and freak out thinking she has a real tiger in there. It's funny. She's loved white tigers for as long as I can remember. She likes the better known type too but she prefers the white one best. She finds them majestic and beautiful and strong and bold and powerful. She hates how endangered they are.
This is a black leopard, also known as a black panther. This is my favorite animal.
Like my kids, I have several stuffed ones. I don't have any life-size or life-like but I do have ones that come close to it. I also have black panther statuaries and a tattoo of one on my right ankle. I've always loved black panthers. This also includes black jaguars. I find them to be very mysterious sleek and and cunning and strong and powerful. (A lot of the same reasons Y likes tigers.) And I think they're just plain gorgeous.
I just thought I'd share a little something about our family. I may do more posts like these in the future.
I also plan on posting Part 2 of "Looking Back" on Monday. It's hard to type something like that up when I have two kids hovering all day.
