Ugh

Posted Oct 15 2008 4:09pm

Sometimes I despise people.

This afternoon I was heading in to the hospital for a meeting. On my way into the main entrance, I saw two rather large women parked by the front door. They were what we informally refer to as “bleached whales,” people who are not merely a little overweight or a but on the heavy side but who have exceeded all reasonable boundaries of fatness. We’re talking people who need cranes to be lifted in or out of their chairs; people who haven’t been able to stand independently for yeats.

They sat by the front door in their motorized wheelchairs, covered in hospital-issue blankets, chain-smoking and discussing whatever it is that morbidly obese people discuss. As I walked by they continued blowing smoke, and then they extinguished their cigarettes and wheeled their motorized carriages into the front doors of the hospital behind me.

You just know that neither of these women has worked in years, yet they can magically afford powered wheelchairs and eight packs of cigarettes a day, not to mention enough food that they can balloon out to the size of four or five normal women. And we’ll spend thousands of dollars caring for their snack-induced diabetes and their pressure ulcers from being too big to move; we’ll spend thousands more caring for their lung cancer and COPD when their massive smoking habit catches up with their deadbeat asses.

I know I shouldn’t be judgmental, but…these people are sickening.
